“Don’t give up on your dreams, or your dreams will give up on you.” — John Wooden.
Many times we give up on our dreams because we feel it cost too much. As an entrepreneur, I can talk to you about being laughed at, being ridiculed, being envied and the list goes on. I can talk to you about failing and being at your lowest point. But, all my experiences have taught me that my dream must cost me something!
In the bible story 2 Samuel 24, we see where King David counted the fighting men and the Lord was not pleased. The Lord gave David three options to choose his punishment and so David chooses “the hands of the Lord” and the Lord sent a plague on the land.
When the plague was over, David went up to offer sacrifice to the Lord. David asked Araunah to sell him the land so he could offer a sacrifice to the Lord. Araunah offered David the land for free. But David refused the offer saying, vs 24 “No, I insist on paying you for it. I will not sacrifice to the Lord my God burnt offerings that cost me nothing.”
David had a tremendous love for the Lord. When I read this story I started thinking about my own relationship with God, and also, my relationship with my dreams. Am I looking for “free” and “easy” ways to build my dream? Am I accepting offers that will destroy my dreams later?
Every great business has a story of struggle. I thought about KFC and how Colonel Sanders tried 1009 times before he was able to start the company in his 60s! This is just one of many stories that are birthed out of great adversities.
Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Him who gives me strength.”
The Lord will help you to fulfill your dreams if you do not give up. So when the storms of life come raging at you, keep going. The moment you believe you can’t do it, everything else begins to crumble. NEVER STOP BELIEVING.
